Ingredients

  • 1 medium head green cabbage, chopped
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, with juice
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup cooked rice (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the meat is browned and the onion is soft.
  3. Drain any excess fat. Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, pepper, paprika, and cooked rice if you're using it. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the chopped cabbage and cook for about 5 minutes to soften it slightly. Drain well.
  5. In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread half of the cabbage. Top with the beef mixture, then layer the remaining cabbage on top.
  6. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil, sprinkle with shredded cheese, and bake uncovered for another 10-15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving. Trust me, it’s worth the wait!
