Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and onions until the meat is browned and the onions are soft. Drain any excess fat.
Add garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir in the corn, cheddar cheese soup, sour cream, and 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese.
Spread the beef mixture evenly in a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Layer the tater tots over the beef mixture, covering it completely like a potato blanket.
Bake uncovered for about 35–40 minutes or until the tots are crispy and golden.
Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese on top and bake for an additional 5 minutes until it’s all melty and bubbly.
Let it cool slightly before serving with pickles or a squirt of ketchup for that full cheeseburger vibe.
