Chocolate Cherry Dump Cake – One Of The Easiest Cherry Dump Cake Recipes

Chocolate and cherries? I mean, come on. It’s a classic combo for a reason. This chocolate cherry dump cake is one of those brilliant ideas someone probably thought up late at night when they had a sweet tooth and not much else. We’ve all been there. You grab a box of cake mix, a can or two of pie filling, some butter, maybe chocolate pudding, and boom—you’ve got something magic. It’s rich, gooey, slightly tart, and basically the dessert version of a warm hug. And the best part? You don’t need to fuss with mixers, bowls, or measuring cups. Just dump, bake, and serve. It’s a recipe with all the reward and none of the drama. Whether you’re trying to win over your in-laws, impress your coworkers, or just make Tuesday less boring, this dump cake delivers. And yeah, if you sneak a bite straight from the pan while it’s still warm, I won’t tell.

Ingredients

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
  • 2 cans (21 oz each) cherry pie filling
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 box (3.9 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix (optional, for extra richness)
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread both cans of cherry pie filling evenly across the bottom of the dish.
  3. If using pudding mix, sprinkle it directly over the cherries.
  4. Evenly sprinkle the dry chocolate cake mix on top—don’t stir.
  5. Drizzle melted butter as evenly as you can over the top of the dry cake mix.
  6. Add chocolate chips on top if you’re feeling wild.
  7. Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the top looks set and slightly crisp.
  8. Let it cool slightly before serving. It’s best warm, maybe with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
