Ingredients

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons oil for frying
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red chili flakes
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated orange zest
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch + 1 tablespoon water (for slurry)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine cornstarch, flour, salt, and pepper. In a separate bowl, beat the egg.
  2. Dip chicken pieces in the egg, then dredge in the flour mixture.
  3. Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Fry chicken until golden and cooked through. Set aside.
  4. In a clean pan, heat a little oil and sauté garlic, ginger, and red chili flakes for 30 seconds.
  5. Add soy sauce, water, orange juice, orange zest, sugar, and vinegar. Bring to a boil.
  6. Mix cornstarch with water to make a slurry and stir into the sauce. Cook until thickened.
  7. Add fried chicken to the sauce and toss until well coated. Serve hot.
