Distribute the cream cheese chunks over the strawberry layer.
Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the cream cheese and strawberries. Do not stir.
Dot the top with butter slices, spacing them as evenly as you can.
Add a drizzle of vanilla extract over the top if using.
Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbly.
Let cool slightly before serving. Great warm or at room temp.
